In
2011, GoF West was held from June 13th thru June
17th in conjunction with MG2011 in Reno, NV, an
event organized by the North American Council of MG
Registers, representing the North American MGA
Register, North American MGB Register, the American
MGC Register, The New England MG “T” Register and
the North American MMM Register. Every five years
the Council coordinates an All-Register Meet and
this was the first to be held on the West Coast.
There were over 600 MGs in Reno from all over the
country! For those of us who love these cars, this
was a very rare opportunity to see cars from all
over the country and meet people who share our
interests. The New England MG “T” Register
coordinates the activities for T-Series cars and GoF
West was asked to organize the Rally, Funkhana, and
Car Show. In turn, they asked the Sacramento Valley
MG Car Club to be the host club for GoF West 2011
and to organize the pre-1956 car activities. The
SVMGCC had plenty of experience putting on major
events, having organized the NAMGBR National Meet in
1995 and NAMGAR National Meet in 1999.
Led by 2011 club President, Lawrie Alexander, (who
chaired the 1995 & 1999 meets), the SVMGCC turned
out in force and put on a great show. The Tuesday
Funkhana, a Rally to Virginia City on Wednesday and
the Car Show on Thursday were organized and run with
cheerful efficiency and all who participated were
pleased to note that the club successfully
maintained (indeed, some said exceeded!) the
traditions of GoF West in these events. In addition,
the usual tech sessions, auction and meetings of the
Advisory Council and Steering Committee took place,
so that GoF West could count another great year in
its long tradition of enjoyable annual gatherings.
